Bai Hao, Eastern Beauty—however the tea is known to you, its mark is indelible on tea culture. Years ago, Mr. Teng, uncle of our Miaoli-based partner Ms. Teng, moved to Fujian to scale production and enjoy the highland, maritime climate of Dehua. Fortune soon found him via an abundance of tea jassids—the little bug whose bite instills sweetness in the crop. Domestic demand did not meet expectations however and Teng was forced to sell most of the land in the years after. What remains are a collection of idyllic, rolling hills and a small farm producing nonpareil Bai Hao.
